Training Your Singing Voice - How To Locate The Singing Teacher Who Is Just Right For You

As a voice teacher-coach for over 40 years, I've often been contacted by singers throughout the country, asking for advice in finding a good voice teacher. Every little town has teachers who sang some opera or Broadway at sometime in their past, and now have set up shop as teachers. But all too often they have no experience with, or appreciation of the genres of music many singers love to sing. Here are some guidelines for locating the right teacher for you.

1. Take a session with a teacher (many offer free first sessions). During that session listen carefully and ask such questions as: "I love to sing punk (or metal or country, etc). What is your opinion about that?" If they even hint at wanting to change you from what you love to sing to what THEY feel you should be singing, DON'T GO BACK. It's your voice and you know what you want to sing. The job of a good voice teacher is to help you become better and better at what you already sing, not to change you.

2. A session with a teacher will also tell you their approach to teaching. If you don't respond well to a strict authoritative demanding teacher, that isn't going to change, and you probably won't improve nearly as well as when you work with a teacher who puts you at ease, is knowledgeable and doesn't yell. On the other hand, if you've always responded well to strict discipline and heavy handed teachers you'll know if this is the right one for you. You must be able to trust and feel comfortable with the teacher. You're purchasing their services. Be very choosy. Just because many singers recommended this person doesn't necessarily mean they are right for you.

3. Ask around. Visit some clubs and when you hear a singer you like a lot ask them if they study and with whom. If they don't study, perhaps they are familiar with a teacher in the area who comes well recommended. Don't rely on credentials alone to influence your choice. Some of the worst teachers for pop and rock singers are professors at major universities. The same goes for the teacher who is known for working with all classical or opera singers. They may be great teachers, but they probably won't be great for you.

4. Don't pick a teacher just because they charge less. You're better off taking 8 sessions with the right teacher who also charges $100. a session than you are wasting time on 50 sessions with a less qualified teacher. if your budget demands, take 4-8 sessions and drop out for a few weeks to regroup financially. Discuss this with the teacher. Consider this: the guitar or keyboard or drum player in a band is constantly investing in new and better equipment. Lessons are your investment in your equipment.

All too often there just isn't a qualified voice teacher in many areas and towns. So what to do? You should consider downloading my SINGER'S BIBLE, a power-packed 9 session course in singing, created for pop, rock, Broadway and country singers. (Some great stuff for classical singers also) My concepts and techniques are both time-tested and modern, and geared to singers of today's music.

Like doctors, all voice teachers are not qualified to teach you. Make the right choice and save much money and a lot of wasted time.

Singing Tips For Musical Auditions - What Are Judges Of American Idol And Other Talent Auditions Loo

Ok. So you've decided to audition for American Idol, or the local talent show, or the local Karaoke talent search. What's going to give you that big step up and put you ahead of the other singers and performers? What are the judges looking for in their first place winner?
First you need to realize that the visual impression you make is every bit as important as the quality of your singing. Having a terrific singing voice will not, by itself, win you that first place position, unless you happen to be a Josh Groban or Celine Dion) and even they spend much time working on their presentations.

Of course you need to practice and perfect your songs. Memorize them far in advance of the audition so there's no chance of your forgetting lyrics or melody. Record them, and listen - not just for bad notes, but also listen as if you were hearing this singer for the first time on the radio. Do you like them? Would you go out and buy their album? Do they "speak" to you with their emotion and style?

FACT: Most singers (including professionals) are not at all satisfied with the sound of their recorded voices. Elton John once said "Its an acquired taste". There are reasons for this, which I go into in depth in my FREE Ebook, "Excellent Tips, Tools and Techniques for All Singers". But for now you need to understand that many of the top selling artists do not like the quality of their own voices. Get over it. It's your voice, and your job is to take what you have right now and use it to win the audition.

You can't keep dodging auditions and performances just because you are waiting until your voice gets better. IF OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU THEY LIKE YOUR SINGING, BELIEVE THEM. They are the ones listening fom the outside.

Just as much time (if not more) should be spent working on your performance as on the song , itself. Practice exactly where you want to move during the song. Use the entire stage area, even if it is only 6 feet, to "tell your story" Practice your expressions and body movements so that they become an equal part of your song, along with your voice quality. Leave nothing to chance. Rehearse it all. If you are singing Karaoke, memorize the song.
Establish a personal relationship with the judges through your presentation. This doesn't mean your obviously "playing" to them. They need to like you without feeling that you are trying to make them do this.

What you wear needs to coordinate with what you are singing without being overly obvious. (If you are wearing shorts and sandals while singing "You Raise Me Up" your outfit will prove detrimental to the overall power and effect.

Design a Comfortable Mascot Costume

When you hear the word "Mascot", most of us think about a sporting event and that funny big chicken walking around looking silly. A person wearing a Mascot Costume is seen in most stadiums during a game, but few of us have thought about what goes into designing and making that costume.
How do you design a comfortable mascot costume?

Mascots have become so common, they even have a following. Mascots have fans that wait for them to come on the field or stage and cheer when they appear. Many teams and schools are identified by their mascot. When you see a particular mascot dressed in his distinctive costume, you think of the team or school he represents.
Many mascots are for entertainment value. They can appear before the game or during a break, like halftime, to entertain the audience. Many people will attend a game or event just to see what the mascot will be doing that day. When a game seems to be going slowly or dragging, the mascot can appear making everyone attending happy and having fun again. They are funny and fans remember their antics long after the event.

The mascot is usually silly and seems to be moving around with ease; but he or she can be wearing a heavy costume that, sometimes, may have little ventilation. Most of us forget that there is a person inside the costume. The person wearing the costume must be taken into consideration when the mascot's outfit is constructed.

Professional team's budgets allow them to spend more on their mascot's costume so many of them may be wearing a costume that is made with lighter material and the person is able to breath. The way the mascot costume is made has a lot to do with how easily the person moves around and how long the person can wear the costume. When a team or organization is planning to employee someone to wear the mascot costume, agility and strength of the person wearing the costume is a prerequisite for the job.

There are some concerns before constructing a new costume. The climate where the costume will be worn should be taken into consideration. If the weather is warm, lighter material should be used. If the weather is warm and turns cold, the costume will need to have ways to remove or add material to keep the person inside warm or cool.

Fiberglass can be used to construct the head because it is light. Visibility from inside the head will be important to the design. If the person wearing the costume has to move around, he will need good visibility for safety.

The body of the suit can be sewn with various materials, such as polyester, cotton, or denim. A small battery operated fan is often built into the body of the suit to keep the person wearing the custom cool during warmer months. If the body of the suit is constructed loosely, the person will get less warm.

If you are having someone off site design the mascot costume, agree on a cost that includes design and material. When you find someone to design it, get a guarantee that it will be an original. You will want your organization to have a mascot costume that is unique to your organization. When the costume is finished, you will want to own all rights to the design. Ask the designer, or person constructing the costume, to incorporate the colors of your organization in the fabric of the costume. The colors on the costume will be as identifiable as the mascot itself.
Materials you will need, if you are planning to design and construct the costume yourself, are the same as you would use for any sewing project. Other considerations will be to construct the suit large enough for air to pass around the person wearing the suit; polyester fill to make the costume look larger than life; Velcro for ease in getting in and out of the costume; and cardboard or fiberglass for the head.

Most mascot costumes can only be worn for a maximum of 40 minutes at a time. The person inside the suit should be hydrated before putting it on. Mascots should be accompanied with another person as a guide or handler. More than one person may be needed, depending on the size the crowd and the event.

Quick and Easy Party Planning Tips

Planning a party can be overwhelming, especially when you start at the last minute. So, do yourself a favor and make it a priority to plan any soirée early. A couple of weeks is plenty of time to get everything together, however, it does take effort and organization. To kick start your planning, follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way to an awesome party that friends and family will talk about for years. The easiest and most effective way to plan any party is by simply answering five basic questions. Who, what, where, when and why. Just like everything else in life, to be successful, you need to have a clear vision of where you are going, otherwise you end up going in circles or going off the path completely. One way to make sure this doesn’t happen is by compiling your answers to the above questions and creating a sentence from it. The most important question is the "who". In order to plan a party, you have to know who the party is for. Answer the following three questions and then create a sentence from them. 1. Who is my anticipated guest list? (Friends, family or coworkers?) 2. Do you want a small gathering or a lot of people? 3. Will this be exclusively for adults or will there be children? Perhaps your sentence will look like one of these: A small party for adult friends A big family party Now that you know who will be attending your event, you need to figure out what kind of party you want and where you would like to host it. 1. Is this a casual or formal party? 3. Will you host this party at home or at a venue? Now add those answers to your sentence. A small, casual home party for adult friends. A formal, big family event at the local recreation center. Once you get this far, you can figure out what type of food and drink you will be serving. Naturally, if it is formal, you might want to consider a sit down supper with wine. If it is casual, perhaps a buffet style supper or potluck with punch. If this party is after dinner hours, then appetizers will do just fine. Let’s look at that sentence now. A small, casual home party featuring a potluck dinner and drinks for adult friends. A formal, big family event with a sit down supper and wine to drink hosted at the local recreation center. The party is definitely shaping up, but there is still some work to do. Now you need to know why you want to host an evening to begin with. This will form the theme. 1. Is this a party to celebrate a specific day or person? Once you’ve answered this question, you can decide on what type of entertainment would be appropriate for this particular party. Perhaps some dancing, board games or singing. Whatever suits the needs of the crowd. A small, casual home party featuring a potluck dinner and drinks for adult friends to celebrate Christmas. A formal, big family dance with a sit down supper and wine to drink hosted at the local recreation center to celebrate Christmas. Finally, you need to answer the last question. When? Now you can create an invitation based on your sentence. See how much clearer the picture is? You know exactly where you want to go, now all you need to do is organize the steps to get there and that’s where your to-do list comes into play. Here is an example to do list to help you plan that perfect stress free party.
To do List
1. Book your venue
2. Book your entertainment
3. Create your guest list
4. Send out invitations
5. Plan your menu and do your grocery shopping 6. Buy decorations according to your theme
Tip: It helps to create an agenda of how you would like the evening to unfold. This can be approximated. You just never know what surprises will unveil itself at the party, so just go with the flow and enjoy yourself. I hope you’ve enjoyed this article and wish you the best party ever!

How to organise a great Christmas party

With the festive season ahead and the looming expense that this brings us, companies and personal circumstances find it difficult with a limited budget and know what to do when it comes to celebrating. Planning and preparation is the key for any successful celebration however simple or complex. So it is always a good start to write a bullet point list of thoughts and overall spending budget intended. People may find all this too much with a significant range of products and services available and prices varying dramatically. A night out to remember at Christmas is an excellent way of saying a big thank you to your staff for all the hard work they have put in over the year and developing a high level of team spirit. Christmas is a time for reflection and reconciliation as well as a great opportunity to let your hair down and party hard. The temperatures may plummet, but the heat can really get turned on at the office Christmas party. Delivering a fun evening to a wide circle of colleagues can be a challenging task, but here are our tips to make sure Yule [sorry!] have a cool Christmas celebration. Friendly faces to meet and greet Starting the evening on the right note is crucial to setting a positive tone to your evening. Nominating a few of the friendly people in your company to loiter in the reception area is a great way to make people feel at ease on arrival. Lead by example and compliment everyone’s outfit as soon as they arrive. Prevention is better than cure The best prevention of stress on the night is good planning in advance of the party. Make sure all your guests know where the party is and what the difference is between an arrival time and a seating time. Make sure your guests know what is being provided on the night in terms of drinks, transport and accommodation so that you don’t end up with cash-strapped guests expecting a free bar and a ride home at the end of the night. Distributing some local taxi numbers or nearby hotel reservation lines is subtle ways of letting guests know they need to make their own arrangements. Make the invitations useful on the night With all the hard work you put into sending out invitations with all the party information your guests should know, you want to make sure your guests bring them on the night. Invitations can double-up as tickets, bar vouchers or a prize draw after dinner. Keep the food coming If you’re worried about certain individuals partying a little too hard, too soon, consider reducing a flow of reception drinks and limit this to one reception drink with a few canapés alongside. Sit your guests down to a three course meal so that everyone dines together instead of being able to sneak away to the bar all evening. Fingers on buzzers If you want to hear the sound of chatter louder than cutlery on plates, inject a little competitive spirit into the evening with a fun quiz for tables to compete in. Throw in a few curve-ball questions to ensure everyone has the chance to get involved if you’re worried about domineering know-it-alls. Do you know what the collective noun for a group of caterpillars is? [an army, who knew!] Keep the peace Identify who are the best peace-keeping forces in your workplace and kindly ask them to be wary of any prior friction that could flare up at the party towards the end of the night. Draw up your table plans strategically to buffer any fractious parties. Shared Christmas parties For companies of any size, joining a shared Christmas party can be a great option. If you are a smaller company, this allows you to book seats at a full scale Christmas party, allowing you to benefit from the fun atmosphere and entertainment of a big event - and even meet new people. Shared Christmas parties are often themed - think Rio Carnival, Winter Wonderland, Moulin Rouge (to name but a few) - which adds a different angle to the evening. They will also include the catering, usually a sit down 3 or 4 course meal, entertainment, a DJ to provide the essential music, and full event management. Exclusive Christmas parties For companies looking to hold a private Christmas party, there are many venues and party packages available. If you would like to create a bespoke Christmas party we are here to help you with the entire process, from the initial concept through to the management of the event itself, allowing you to sit back and relax on the evening. We can work with you on venue selection, party themes, entertainment, catering, music, hotel accommodation and much more. There are, of course, hundreds more venues available throughout the UK, so if you can’t find what you are looking for we will help you locate it. Call us today to start planning your exclusive company Christmas party. Themed Christmas Parties You’ve landed the challenge of organising the company Christmas party. Perhaps it’s your first year; perhaps you’re hoping it’s your last. You want to make a lasting impression – for all the right reasons – have you thought about themeing? Themeing your Christmas party is a great way to add a touch of sparkle to the night, and puts you in the best position to guide the evening’s proceedings (away from the bar). Our team at ‘How Can We Help You?’ can create an exclusive themed Christmas party from the eye-catching Snow Ball to a vibrant Vegas Xmas extravaganza, taking care of all the entertainment, décor, production and installation for you. An action-packed evening is a great way to offer your guests more than just the bar for entertainment. Create a lasting impression and fond memories of a magical Winter Wonderland that will be the talk of the office for years to come. Christmas parties at offices, homes and in marquees Smaller gatherings in the office or home can be more personal by not having to be restricted to a venue’s availability and constraints; especially the ones who like to party till early hours of the morning! This can enhance your personal tastes and style, with options to create and tailor the occasion to your requirements.

Entertainment Agencies – The Best Way To Find And Book Entertainment

Most people have had or been to an event or party at which they had entertainment. How did they find it? Was it any good? The answer to the first question is they probably used their local telephone directory, the Internet or had seen the act or service personally. The answer to the second question is sometimes yes and sometimes no.
So why use an entertainment agency to find what you are looking for? Well first it takes the hit and miss out of finding what you are looking for, a good entertainment agency has access to lots of different forms of entertainment and will save you the problem of locating it. Secondly a good entertainment agency lives on its reputation, so it is in their interest to make sure that the entertainment they supply is of good quality. As the saying goes, you are only as good as your last event. Imagine you are looking for a band, you can spend ages searching the net only to find that what you want is already booked, and searching can take hours, and do you have that time to spare? If you use the phone to contact entertainers and lets say contact 10 at an average of 3 minutes a call, that is 30 minutes of calls on your telephone bill, it may not seem much but it adds up especially if the contact number is a mobile one. And if you do manage to find what you are looking for how do you know it will be any good? Contacting a reputable entertainment agency takes away all the headaches, as they will do all the work for you.
There are things to bear in mind, a reputable agency has quality acts and services which will be in high demand, so make sure you start looking at least 3 months in advance of an event, don’t leave it until the last minute. Only contact one agency, many top quality agencies work with each other to source your needs, contacting 3 or 4 of them means they are duplicating work, time which could be spent on another client. If you were that other client ask yourself how you would feel, if the agency you were using had lost time they could have been using to help you. Running an entertainment agency we often used to get enquiries from people and start looking for their requirements only to have another agency contact us looking for the same thing for the same person. Nowadays we ask if any other agency is being used and if they are we polity refuse to waste time looking for the same thing, if we are told no other agency is involved and find out otherwise then we will drop the client. Many quality agencies act likewise, so you could find yourself back at square one or using a less than reputable entertainment agency.
The next question many people ask is how much will it cost, the answer is nothing unless you cancel, then you may have to pay a cancellation fee. An entertainment agency makes its money in the form of commission from the acts it represents, in other words they pay us for finding them the work. If you cancel the agency makes no commission, which pays for its time and effort on your behalf, therefore most agencies will make a cancellation charge, after all they have staff to pay just like any business. Similarly you might also have to pay a cancellation charge to an act or service in addition to the agency charge, if you have booked them then they are unable to take on other work for the date in question.
The other question is how long will it take? This can vary, many acts and services are registered with numerous agencies and don’t always keep them informed of availability, secondly each act will charge a fee depending on the factors of the event such as getting to it, possible overnight accommodation etc, so a reputable agency will make contact with them to find if they are available and at what cost. If an act or service is on holiday or working away it may take a while for them to get back to the agency, so allow for this. If you haven’t heard anything from an agency within 3 days then give them a call and ask for an update. A good agency will always tell you if they cannot find what you are looking for or if they have been unsuccessful. If that is the case then you can try another. Remember that with an agency you will get a contract, which will state all the relevant details, and you will have a legal document to give you peace of mind.
Remember entertainment agencies live to provide clients with a service, make use of it and save your time and a possible headache.

Digitalization Of Entertainment

Consumers have moved rapidly to adopting digital formats for consuming entertainment-related content. The most obvious example of this is music and video downloads, with Apple’s iTunes and You Tube as leading examples. Apple has sold more than one billion songs via its iTunes music store and it continues to demonstrate a spectacular rate of growth. Over 30,000,000 individuals have purchased an ipod portable music device, and tens of millions of other consumers use one of dozens of other portable devices to listen to music. Other platforms for listening to music are equally successful, and in the case of Microsoft’s Windows Media Player even more dominant with over 90,000,000 systems running the software globally. Real Networks Rhapsody, and Yahoo! Music represent other major entrants in this space. In addition to those companies selling licensed music downloads for a fee, peer-to-peer networks such as Limewire and Morpheus claim to have tens of millions of users sharing music and other files on a continual basis.

As consumers have become comfortable purchasing (and stealing) music online, they are now beginning to download other digital forms of entertainment, including music videos, short-subject films, television shows, and even full-length Hollywood pictures. Traditional media companies have recognized the opportunity to establish new revenue streams and leverage old assets by enabling consumers to download television programming for a fee, and the adoption rate appears to match the early days of music downloading. The increasing penetration of broadband connections (over 50 million homes in the US), advances in software that enables high-quality downloads, and content companies recognizing an enormous opportunity to distribute directly and inexpensively to consumers has created a tidal shift in the number of digital media assets available for download to computers, handheld devices, and even cell phones.

Companies such as YouTube are at the forefront of the intersection of video entertainment and the fragmentation of media due to the empowerment of the consumer. Hundreds of millions of videos are downloaded weekly from YouTube (as well as dozens of competitors), and a significant portion of those videos are not “professionally” produced. More importantly, new talent in various entertainment fields are being discovered through these distribution platforms and forever changing how entertainment is conceived, produced, distributed, and valued.

Learn Beginner Guitar - 6 Easy Steps To Finger Tap Like A Pro

There are some very fun and exciting things that are unique to the guitar. One of these unique items is called finger tapping. Although the theory behind finger tapping is nothing new, there is just something about guitar player finger tapping that sounds totally cool. Many other instruments such as the piano and saxophone have tried for years to emulate the sound of a guitar finger tapping. At the end of the day however, there’s nothing like a real guitar player finger tapping like pro. Let’s take a look at 6 easy steps to learn beginner guitar finger tapping. 1. With your left hand, place your first finger on the second string, fifth fret. 2. With your right first finger pluck the second string on the ninth fret. 3. With your third finger strike the seventh fret 4. With your right first finger strike the ninth fret. 5. Quickly lift your third finger off of the seventh fret 6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 Let’s take a look at a longer explanation of what is occurring. 1. With your left hand, place your first finger on the second string, fifth fret: Remember to use proper left hand technique and place your left fingers just before the fret to get the best sound out of your guitar. 2. With your right first finger pluck the second string on the ninth fret: if you are holding the guitar pick you will want to place it somewhere else for right now. Later on as you improve your finger tapping technique you can place your guitar pick in between another set of fingers. 3. With your third finger strike the seventh fret: This is a technique called a hammer on, and will require practice in order to get the note sounding loud enough to be heard. If you have a guitar amplifier; turning up the volume will help you to hear your hammer on notes until your fingers are strong enough to not need extra volume. 4. With your right first finger strike the ninth fret: If you are having a hard time hammering on the note with your first finger try placing your middle finger over your first finger to give it some extra strength. 5. Quickly lift your third finger off of the seventh fret: You can either lift your left hand third finger as soon as your right hand first finger taps its first note, or you can quickly lift your left hand third finger away from the fret as you pluck the ninth fret with your right first finger. 6. Repeat steps 2 to 5: You now have the basic foundation to begin finger tapping!

How To Play Guitar - Beginner - 4 Must Have Guitar Effect Pedals: Distortion, Delay, Chorus, and Reverb.

If you don’t own them already, at some point, you will encounter what are called guitar effects. Guitar effects are used to enhance the tone and sound of your instrument. Guitar effects can dramatically change your guitar sound, or simply make your guitar sound sonically rich. When you enter the world of guitar effects, it can be quite overwhelming to know what the best guitar effects to purchase are. From stomp boxes, to full rack mount guitar effects, there is an unending supply of sound available to enhance your guitar playing sound and abilities. Let’s take a look at 4 must-have guitar effects that you will want to utilize in your guitar playing experience. 1. Distortion 2. Delay 3. Chorus 4. Reverb 1. Distortion: If you’ve ever heard a hard rock band, chances are you have heard a guitar player that is using distortion. Believe it or not, distortion is not just limited to heavy metal playing guitar players. Many jazz guitar players incorporate distortion into their sound. Even rock and blues players will incorporate a light distortion sound, giving their clean tone an extra edge to the sound that their guitar produces. There are unlimited types of distortion available to the guitar player making distortion a great way to craft your own unique guitar tone. 2. Delay: Think back to a time where you were yelling your name in a concrete stairwell, or shouting your name across a canyon, and while you were calling out your name you heard your name repeat over and over. You have just experienced delay. Another name for delay is echo. Delay as a guitar effect is basically when the sound that you produce on your guitar repeats itself over and over again. There are short delays, and long delays. Short delays are great for adding rhythmic variation to your guitar. Long delays are a great way to add excitement within your guitar solos. 3. Chorus: The idea behind the effect known as chorus is when you have an overlapping blend of voices sounding together. Chorus on the guitar is similar to having many guitar‘s overlapping together. Chorus is a great guitar effect when played on a clean guitar tone. Both electric and acoustic guitars will sound great with chorus added to the sound mix of your guitar. 4. Reverb: Very similarly related to delay is the effect called reverb. If hearing the sound repeat over and over again is called delay, the part of the sound that continues onward after you’ve stopped playing is called reverb. Right now, clap your hand in the room that you’re in. If you’re in a small room your handclap will not last very long. In a large auditorium however, the after sound of clapping your hand might last for a few seconds. You’ll also hear the effects of natural reverb by yelling your name in a concrete stairwell, or a canyon. Reverb is a great guitar effect that can add depth to your sound. Thick Reverb guitar effects are generally not recommended playing with live because reverb can muddy up your guitar sound. Instead, try adding reverb to your guitar in a studio recording. In a home studio recording, reverb can make your guitar sound amazing.

The second point to look at is what method do you want to choose to watch TV on your PC? The easiest option is the software as you only pay a one-off fee, with other options there are other hidden costs involved such as a recurring fee every month plus equipment costs.
The third point to take into account is 'what are other people saying?' by looking at what other people think you can get a glimpse into how user friendly it is to watch TV on your computer. But if you choose the software option this shouldn't be a problem.

10 Dance Career Tips From Professional Dancers

Dance careers can be difficult to jump-start, so why not listen to some advice from professional dancers? This past weekend, we had some additions to our usual group of friends, professional dancers. After I got over my initial sense of awe, we began to talk about their dance careers. I’ve always been fascinated with how people rise to the top of their profession. Professional athletes, movie stars and bands, they all have a unique story but there are usually some core similarities. This article outlines the basic things you should do to start your career in dance to become a professional dancer. Now, you’ll need a little bit of luck, good timing and connections as well, but you could get all of that while getting a Big Mac at your local McDonalds. Natural talent is a good base, but it won’t take you to the top. You need to nurture that talent, develop it and present it to the right people. This article shows you the basics. Some are more obvious than others. Most of you just need some reassurance that you’re taking the right steps to reach your goal, while others have no idea where to start. I believe that not all people in the “know” have the level of talent they need, and not all people with talent are in the “know”. I want to change that, so let’s start! 1. People do not become professionals in anything by reading a few articles or practicing a few hours a week. They become students of their profession. Students go to school. This goes for professional dancers as well. Now, there are a select few that push themselves on their own and have developed a wonderful ability, but that is still not enough. Their talent is rough and unrefined. Regardless of how many years you’ve practiced in your basement, everyone needs some formal training. Nothing can replace a veteran dancer showing you right from wrong, critiquing you and encouraging you. Start by going to a dance studio. Obviously, the sooner you do this the better. You’ll rack up experience and the younger you are the more receptive you are to learning. A good rule of thumb is the bigger the dance studio the better the dance professionals. However, a good teacher has experience, but also a connection with their pupil. This relationship can be forged at smaller, local dance studios as well. Remember, this is just the beginning. There are many professionals that reminisce about a grade school teacher that influenced them the most. Of course, it was probably some Julliard professor that trained them the most, but the person who taught them passion and desire is usually someone they met earlier in their dance career. 2. Dance camps and other supplemental dance institutions are a great way to increase your exposure to various aspects of the dance industry. You will network, learn techniques and be exposed to different teachers and performances. Going outside your comfort zone is a great way to build independence, character and a sense of responsibility as a dancer. 3. When you graduate high school, you’ll be looking to go on to college. This decision should be well thought out. You’re going to trust them with your education that will play a significant role in life after college. As an aspiring, professional dancer, you will want to attend the most prestigious dance school you can find. Try to find an accredited dance school, but at the very least any dance school is better than none. Make sure you start planning before it’s time to apply, like well before. You should begin your research about dance schools while you’re still in high school. Find out what requirements they are looking for in a dancer. Do whatever you can to better your chances at being accepted. By the end of your formal training, you should, if you haven’t already, be narrowing down your dance techniques to a few select, specialized styles. You need to seek out the best dance teacher(s) you can find in those styles and train—train—train. Like any profession, it’s all about education, and for a professional dancer, you never stop learning and practicing. Once again, if you are serious and want to advance in your dance career, at this point you need an expert, a real professional dance teacher. 4. The next tip is something that I’ve written about before. You need good head and body shots, and for that you need a good photographer. Refer to my article, “4 Tips for Great Actor Headshots”, on Talent Trove for more information about what you need for a good portfolio. Yes, it’s about actor headshots, but there are some valid and transferable tips for dancers as well. The important thing to remember for your body shots as a dancer is that you should take pictures of yourself in various dancewears. Don’t wear flashy jewelry, use lighting or shadows to create illusions, or distract the observer with a complex or interesting background. You should be the focus and the subject of interest, nothing else. Good photographs can really help you further you dance career by grabbing the attention of those who should be watching you. 5. At this point, you should already have been to minor dance auditions and castings, just to get your feet wet and some sort of experience, however, now you are ready for some serious work…and it is work. Don’t ever forget that this is your job, your profession. This new level of dance might come as a shock or seem like foreign territory, but you must believe that you are good enough to be here. You are good enough to be here. This is a higher standard. It will be different. It will be difficult, but that is what makes it so much greater when you succeed. You’ve come this far. This is what you’ve been training for, and others have found potential in you, enough to accept and train you. You belong here. The more of these auditions and casting calls you attend, the more comfortable you will become. 6. Those networking and people skills you picked up during your days at dance camp and college will now come into play. You’re in the deep end of the pool now, playing with the big kids. Time to mingle and make new friends. You have to start talking to those professional dancers you see walking the studio halls during your dance auditions. Talk to other dancers who are auditioning. Talk to the judges, casting directors, agents, anyone that will talk to you. Ask them questions, pick their brain, and learn from their stories. Even if they don’t answer your questions, their behavior, demeanor, and way of conversing with you will teach you something. The best thing you can do is become friends with someone successful. 7. You should be fairly comfortable with auditioning by now, and ready to start searching for a dance agent or a dance agency. You will most likely have to perform a dance routine for them in order to be accepted, however, once you’re in you will be given opportunities that you otherwise wouldn’t know existed. These dance agents and dance agencies get the scoop on dance auditions and casting calls so try your best to get represented by one. Once you are in, your dance career will be given wings. However, this is no time to take it easy and coast on through. Now is the time to step it up. 8. Back to what I mentioned before, “…you never stop learning and practicing.” Well, it’s time to train—train—train. Practice makes perfect, I know you’ve heard that before. This intense training period isn’t about learning new styles as it might have been about before. This dance training will focus on honing your existing skills and techniques down to a sharp, crisp point. You need to be awesome in what you do, not mediocre in a broad range of areas. A professional dancer needs to be at the top of their specific field, not hovering in the middle across the board. You’ll have plenty of time later to expand your horizons, but for now you need a job so you can gain valuable experience…and money. Also, stop and take a breath. Look around, you’re becoming a dancer, and your dance career is beginning to take shape. Enjoy it! 9. When you think you’re ready, and don’t wait to long at this point, start researching some choreographers you would like to work with or train with as a pupil. Most dance choreographers will offer dance classes at their own dance studios. You have to wait this long before you attempt to train with a professional dance choreographer, because they are just that, professionals. Dance choreographers will only work with the best dancers so you have to be at a certain point of your dance career for them to take interest in you. There are many benefits to working with a dance choreographer. You become familiar with the way this aspect of the dance industry works. They will begin to recognize you and perhaps throw some work your way. You will also be updated and trained in the most current dance techniques and trends. The fewer things that surprise you during a dance audition the better. 10. At the end of all this there is one important thing to remember, that usually separates those that make it and those that do not. If this is truly what you want, and you’ve dreamt about it all your life, never give up trying. Every successful person in the world has one thing in common. They were relentless in their pursuit of happiness. If you want to make the most out of your dance career, it will take a lot of hard work so don’t get discouraged. You’ll get rejected. Everyone does. Being a dancer is not easy for anyone, but people do it. Why not you? These tips are not set in stone or by any means in exact order. Everyone is different and some people might jump ahead or start one step later in their career. The important thing is that you have a clear plan with goals, and you work hard to achieve them.

Does God Exist? - Concept

The Old Testament regards God as an anthropomorphic being who made Man in His own image. The word anthropomorphic comes from the Greek meaning 'human shape or form'. It alludes to the physical aspect or architecture of a living entity, suggesting that it has acquired a human-like body.
Of course, such a hypothesis is quite vulnerable. Does God have a penis, go potty, or suffer headaches? Does He eat, sleep, get dirty, and take showers. Is God made of atoms? Does blood run through His veins? Does He grow old or in size? Did a woman give birth and a belly button to Him? Is there a way to kill Him with a kryptonite rock or a silver bullet of sorts?
Thus, the theist was compelled to modify the meaning of 'anthropomorphic' to include only behavior. Dr. Bruce Prescott, a self-described, born-again biologist testifies that:
"God is not an "object" that can be observed, tested, manipulated or controlled by any conceivable experiment... God is not an organism. He does not have a genetic structure. God is Spirit. The image of God in man does not refer to our physical form or body; it refers to our spirit."
(Evolution and Religion: Do They Conflict? Dr. Bruce Prescott, University of Oklahoma Zoological Society, April 8, 2002)
There is at least one biblical passage that supports Prescott's argument. John 4:24 certifies that "God is a Spirit." However, the passage serves more readily as evidence that a major shift occurred in theology from the days of the Old to those of the New Testament. The religion changed completely. Whereas the people of Old Testament fame explain Creation by invoking a human-like creature, the folks of the New converted God into an abstract concept. Genesis documents that God rested after creating the world. He spoke to Adam, listened to Moses, and materialized to hundreds as a flaming bush. These characterizations invariably point to a physical object. 1 John 4.8 would rather have you believe in a more ethereal deity: "God is love."
Theists are proposing two different and irreconcilable Gods here. Either God is a physical object (call 'it' a spirit or ghost or whatever) or God is an abstract concept such as love, 'spirit', or intelligence. An object has shape. A concept doesn't. We can make a movie with shapes. We cannot make a movie with abstractions such as love or conscience. Objects like trees and rocks can be conceived to move. Concepts do not perform actions. Justice does not walk; beauty does not jump. The ability to move is circumscribed to objects. God cannot simultaneously have and lack shape, move and be unable to move. The theist has to tell the audience whether God is an object or a concept. Are we asked to pray to intelligence or to an anthropomorphic being?
The issue of whether God is a physical object or an abstract concept is pertinent to the question of whether God exists because all concepts were invented by Man, and we would hope that God did not begin to exist after Man came aboard. If God is a physical object that looks somewhat like a human, we can conceive of His existence, no differently I may add than conceiving the existence of Big Foot or of an extraterrestrial alien. This doesn't mean that Big Foot or the alien exist. It just means that we can imagine such creatures standing before us. If God is an abstract concept, it will be impossible for the proponent to form an image of God, let alone to convey it to others. The theist who proposes God the Concept has summarily rendered his or her personal god nonexistent.
A physical object is that which has shape. An abstract concept is that which doesn't. If God can BE both, a physical object as well as an abstract concept, have shape and not simultaneously, then God is more than just remarkable. God is a totally invalid hypothesis. This has little to do with us petty mortals being unable to comprehend the ways of God. It has more to do with the contradiction inherent in the irrational presentation that the proponent just finished giving.

The Purpose of Celebrity - What is the Value of a Pulpit If You Have Nothing Important to Say?

No matter what your field of expertise, once you gain ground as a celebrity, it's a great opportunity to use your status and recognition to better humanity. I don't mean to suggest you should strive to be the next Mother Teresa - far from it. My point is that you have an opportunity - if you want it - to deliver a worthwhile message.
Consider the celebrities that you admire, or at least think well of. Whether you thought of U2's Bono and his humanitarian work, or Sonny & Cher's Sonny Bono, whose passion turned to the political arena, they are both terrific examples of celebrities who desired to use their fame to spread their message and make a difference to society.
When that message becomes part and parcel of the celebrity's brand, it fortifies both the message and the celebrity who delivers it. The late Isaac Hayes worked to improve world literacy. Katie Couric is synonymous with the promotion of cancer screening. Wendy's founder, Dave Thomas, himself a foster child, was a strong supporter for raising awareness of the plight of foster children, and an advocate for child adoption. And, under the leadership of legendary CEO Jack Welch, General Electric reinvented itself several times over by integrating new and innovative practices into its many lines of business.
It is not my intention to preach that only an altruistic purpose justifies celebrity - not at all. What I would like you to take from this is the idea that your celebrity can be a bully pulpit for improving conditions around you. If you are a successful real estate broker (no mean feat today), and you have had exceptional success selling distressed homes, you could also be the point-man for Habitat for Humanity in your community! Wouldn't you feel great knowing you helped other less fortunate families have a home?
Think about how you could use celebrity...what message could you share that would help someone else succeed? You've seen what celebrity can do for you...what can YOU do for celebrity?
